Day 11: Pace yourself

It's easy to get caught up in all of this food allergy business and can quickly become overwhelming. You need to remember to take things slow. Recognize the allergies that bother you the most and start taking those out of your diet. If you quit cold turkey you could possibly send your body into shock or set yourself up for failure. Don't let your allergies take control of you!

Some foods have addictive properties that you will experience withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms can be very different for everyone. Some people feel like they have the flu and others have no symptoms whatsoever. One food that is addictive is dairy and that's because of the protein casein. On some food labels you will see casein as an ingredient but is mostly used in cheese. I'm sure you are wondering what it is and your probably not going to like it. Below is information from other sites about the effects casein has on our bodies:

"Contrary to popular belief, milk actually reduces you calcium content on your bones! Because milk causes your body to become acidic, your bones come out to your rescue by releasing calcium and magnesium to counterbalance the acidic environment. The protein found in milk, casein, has been linked to the creation and promotion of cancer (read The China Study if you want more information on this topic). Besides, we are the only animal species in the planet who sucks on milk when we are way past our “baby” period. Not only are we drinking milk when we are no longer supposed to, we are drinking another animal’s milk. This milk is design to grow a 90-pound calf into a 2,000-pound cow over the course of 2 years." -Greenfuss.tumblr.com

I also got this comic from greenfuss.com

"The peptides from gluten and casein can react with opiate receptors in the brain, thus mimicking the effects of opiate drugs like heroin and morphine."  -Great Plains Laboratory

"Too much cheese may give you arthritis and migraine attacks. Research showed that cheese triggers migraines in many patients, and that cheese is also implicated in 50 percent of rheumatoid arthritis due to its high fat content.

Research also showed that cheese increases insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), which is an aggressive promoter of cancer and abnormal cell growth." -Articlesbase.com

Once I got past the craving and withdrawal phase I didn't even care for it!!  Crazy I know but its so true!  I began ordering sandwiches and salads without cheese, bought vegan substitutes for butter, cream cheese, and sour cream.  I won't say it tastes the same because it doesn't but it is very similar.  Just sure that if you make these substitutes for dairy products that you aren't over indulging.  These to are high in calories and fat.  Moderation is key!!

At first it was hard to accept my dairy allergy because for my family it is a way of life.  Once I started feeling better the initial shock wore off and I began researching why people have allergies to dairy.  I mean every commercial break on the radio they play those, "Have you had your 3 servings?"  So it's only natural to think you can't live without it.  I'm proof that you can live without dairy and I actually lost weight!!  So why would I go back??

This is my Papa Morgan on his dairy farm.  I love to go back and visit!!  I miss everyone so much!!
