Often times people ask me, "So what can you eat?" I tell them, mostly like I did before the allergies just without all the fixins. For example, today after work I was super hungry and needed to eat ASAP or I was going to die. Well not literally but you get the point. I chose In n Out because they have a simple menu. They only thing deep fried is their fresh cut fries. So no cross contamination in the fryer. For the burgers just ask for it protein style. It's not the same but its gluten free and is less calories if you're counting. A calorie saved is a calorie earned in other sinful delights!
In many ways I am thankful for my allergies. I'm sure you think I'm crazy but it's true. Without them I would still be eating whatever, whenever. Now eating takes much more thought and preparation. Unlike a fad diet this one has consequences and I'm not talking about just enlarging my love handles. It's much more complicated then that.
I first learned of my allergies when my nephew came to visit on his birthday. I was so excited because we could have a little party for him. We ordered a Toy Story themed cake and it looked amazing! That night we had cake and were playing Wii. About 45 minutes later my eyes were super itchy and began to swell. I took 2 Benadryl and it only stopped the swelling. My eyes were swollen for the next 12 hours!
Things like eating wherever, are not as simple anymore. My meals take more planning and preparation than just tossing a frozen pizza in the oven. So I can have my burger and eat it too, it just takes a lot more effort to find places that cater to someone with allergies.
