Day 16: Fad diets...get skinny quick!!

What if I told you for only three easy payments of $9.99 I can make you skinny!!  Yes, just like so many other people I have bought more exercise equipment, instructional videos, and even the "high school skinny" pill.  We are all so busy working to pay bills and take care of our loved ones that we forget to take a moment for ourselves.  It's not that our family or co-workers are selfish, its just how times have changed.  Stores are open 24 hours and every other business is extending its hours to increase sales.  Its just the nature of the beast and the result is too little time for us.

I can tell you that I have tried those fad diets, counting calories, and spending two hours a day in the gym with little to NO results.  Often I hear friends and family complaining about their "muffin tops" or "what happened to me?  I was so skinny in high school!"  When I first started changing my diet I started incorporating more greens in my diet.  For breakfast I would have a fruit smoothie and toss in a handful of spinach.  I know what your thinking!!  Spinach is a very mild green and if you didn't see the green in the cup you would never know!  I promise!

I slowly started changing my diet so I wouldn't become overwhelmed by switching all at once.  After a couple of weeks (without exercising) I began to notice my clothes were baggy.  This got me so excited I started adding in more greens to other meals and cutting back on my animal proteins. And before I knew it 4 months had passed and I had lost 28 pounds without doing anything!!

NO pills, NO dairy, NO eggs, NO exercise, and cutting back on animal protein. That was it!!  I lost 28 pounds and I wasn't killing myself in the gym or counting calories.  I was shocked and everyone was asking what I was doing.  When I told them about the green smoothies they all gave me that disgusted look like I was a crazy hippie.  But if someone had told me that I would have probably done the same thing.  Why is it that we are willing to spend crazy amounts of money and practically starve ourselves, while still consuming processed garbage, but we are unwilling to eat greens?

I'm not sure why but I was also hesitant at first, now I think what took me so long to wake up?  Going vegan or vegetarian isn't for everyone and I'm not saying anyone should change their diets to this extent.  But if you just added more greens and cut back on dairy and animal proteins you might be surprised at the results.  When I was mostly vegan and only at fish once a month, I can honestly say I have never felt better in my life.  I am working to get more greens back in my diet and feel more at peace.  You probably think I'm a stupid hippie but I felt so peaceful on this diet, stress levels were super low, and I wasn't running around like a crazy person.  The more garbage I put in my body, the more crazy and stressed out I feel.  Call me what you like but it was pure bliss....

Who says you can't have a chocolate smoothie for breakfast??!!  This has cacao and spinach in it and was just like having dessert for breakfast!
